Rocks & Jocks Open Spiel
The North Hill Curling Club is excited to host the inaugural Rocks and Jocks Open Spiel on November 17-19, 2023. The spiel is an inclusive event open to the LGTBQ2S+ community and its allies.
Registration opens September 15, 2023 with the first 24 teams accepted.
Teams are guaranteed three games and will be seeded in the A, B or C event based on wins/losses. The A-Event winner will take home the grand prize of $1,000 which was generously donated by our Rainbow Sponsor, Carlin Koster Real Estate.
The event will feature loads of fun activities and event specials including:
Raffles
We will be selling 50/50 tickets throughout the weekend and will be raffling items donated by local businesses at our raffle table. Purchase tickets for a chance to win a prize.
Toonie Hog Pot
It can pay to miss a shot! If you hog a rock during one of your games, drop a toonie and your name into the pot for a chance to win the prize money at the end of the event. Don't worry, you only have to pay once per game, unless you want a better chance at winning the prize money that is. Bring your toonies!
Double Takeout Board
Each time your team removes two of the opponents’ rocks from play, you retrieve the doubles board and set it at your sheet. If your team has the board once all the games are complete you win four Epic Ales, courtesy of our sponsor, Radical Road Brewing Co.
Featured Shooters
If shooters help you curl better or make your clothes come off… we have you covered. The lounge will be featuring specialty shooters throughout the weekend.
Friday Night Karaoke
Hosted by the one and only Karla Brown, a legend karaoke host in Calgary. If you've ever been to Texas Lounge or College Bar, you'll know her very well. Start prepping your song lists now!
Saturday Meal Banquet
Included with your registration, we will be hosting a banquet on Saturday evening @ 6 p.m.
Saturday Night Drag Show & Team Quickies: The game where finishing first isn’t shameful!
Hosted by Calgary's very own Drag Queen talent, Tana Nuff. Teams will be pitted against each other in a series of "quickie" games. Think minute-to-win-it, but obviously more fun…and remember finishing quick in this game is not something to be ashamed of! :)
During the Team Quickies, Tana Nuff will entertain us, so bring your cash and support a local performer!
