POSITION: Ice Technician (Full-time; Seasonal)

The North Hill Curling Club is accepting applications for an Ice Technician for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The North Hill Curling Club is a six-sheet curling facility close to downtown Calgary. We are an active club that is committed to providing a rewarding curling experience for curlers of all levels.

We will begin ice installation on August 19, with the goal to be ready to go on August 29th.The ice is scheduled to come out mid-April, 2020.

Reporting to the Head Ice Technician, the Ice Technician, while on duty, will ensure that the ice operations run efficiently, safely and to the standard that the membership has become accustomed. They will need to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with members, volunteers, all staff and visitors to the facility.

Anticipated work weeks are 32-40 hours during evenings and weekends, or as otherwise needed.

DUTIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in ice installation and daily maintenance operations
  • Minor custodial duties during shifts
  • Removal of ice and proper storage of ice equipment for the off-season.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Team player; service oriented
  • Self-motivated
  • Ice master Boss Scraper experience an asset

  • Five-Rock Rule is in effect this season!

    We are now playing with the 5 rock rule in the FGZ as per Curling Canada rules in effect starting this season.  Under the 5-Rock rule, teams are not permitted to eliminate their opponent's rocks that are sitting in the free guard zone until five stones have been played in every end.  Players can still hit the guards; they just are not allowed to knock them out of play.
