General Manager

The North Hill Curling Club is looking to hire a full time General Manager. We are located in Calgary, Alberta and are proud to call our 6-sheet rink one of the most beautiful and vibrant clubs in the city. Reporting to the Board of Directors, and working closely with the Executive, the Manager will efficiently manage all aspects of the club’s activities to ensure safe, quality services to our members and surrounding community.

In addition to other duties as assigned, the successful candidate will perform the following tasks:

 

Facility Maintenance

  • Retain, negotiate and direct contract services to maintain safe, reliable operations of both internal and external club facilities.

  • Timely renewal of all required operational licenses (Liquor, Tax, etc.)

  • Ensure the efficient operation of the building and ice by working closely with the Head Ice Technician

Building Maintenance

  • Ensure maintenance jobs are scheduled and completed on time

 

Kitchen and Lounge

  • Ensure and maintain “ProServe” certification for all bar staff

  • Be familiar with Gaming and Liquor regulations

  • Purchase and inventory control on bar stock, food, confectionery, and other items.

 

Office and Financial Administration

  • Maintain necessary permits and memberships

  • Manage contacts, correspondence and inquires

  • Attend board meetings as required

  • Provide organizational and planning assistance and advise on Club policies and procedures as needed

 

Social Networking Presence

  • Review and maintain NHCCs social network presence with the help of the Communications Lead from the Board of Directors

 

Sponsorship and Marketing

  • Pursue advertising income from sign promotion and other sponsorships

  • Promote the club to the membership, general public, schools and private industry

  • Promote new memberships and the club image through initiatives and new concepts

  • Develop and maintain a community presence

 

Financial Accounting

  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets in consultation with the Club executive and Treasurer

  • Maintain all payables and receivables

  • Approve timesheets and distribute payroll cheques

  • Maintain bank accounts, term deposits and daily reconciliation of bar and cafeteria

  • Ensure effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, facilities and time

 

Member Services

  • Receive and promptly respond to member inquiries

  • Coordinate and compile material for correspondence to club members

  • Maintain a club calendar and schedule and ensure current events are relayed to various groups

  • Coordinate ice time for all curling sections and maintain a schedule of club events

  • Maintain and update fees for banquet facilities, rental ice, bonspiels etc.

 

Employee Supervision

  • Hire, train and arrange training for employees as needed

  • Manage the employee benefits program

  • Ensure end-of season performance reviews are conducted

 

Required Qualifications

  • Well-developed business management and leadership experience in customer or member-focused organizations

  • Previous responsibility or appreciation for marketing communications/public relations

  • Proven track record of establishing effective operating procedures and processes, while maximizing the use of technology

  • Experience with municipal and volunteer associations would be of value

  • Ideally a curling enthusiast, but as a minimum must be familiar with the sport of curling

  • Excellent people and communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and the ability to work alone

  • Proficient in using computers and related software

  • Willing to work flexible hours
