                                       BONSPIEL POLICIES & PROCEDURES

The North Hill Community Curling Club serves both its members and the public. Our objective is for you to have an enjoyable event at our facility but at the same time, for you to conform to the same rules and procedures that our members must follow.

THE ICE STAFF HAS ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY. ANY COMPLAINTS ARE TO BE DIRECTED TO THE CLUB MANAGER.

SPEED OF PLAY

The average time to complete eight ends of play is normally under two hours.  To do this you need to: be ready to play when it’s your turn, tell stories in the lounge or while the opposition Team is playing; and to minimize Team meetings.

PROPER DRESS

Each participant is required to be properly equipped and attired. This means each player must have a broom or brush, and must dress appropriately; especially with respect to footwear.  Participants should wear loose fitting or stretch slacks. Jeans are acceptable but tend to bind the curler in the wrong places.

Footwear can be running shoes or any shoe with a rubber sole. It is preferred that clean shoes be brought to the Club to be worn only while curling. Gravel and grit usually embedded in the soles of running shoes create havoc with the ice surface.  No heels or boots allowed.

The rink air temperature is maintained at about three degrees Celsius. Sweater/jacket and gloves are advisable.

CARE OF EQUIPMENT

Curling stones are made of granite, and while extremely rare, have been known to break. Certainly the handles being plastic do not stand up to abuse. A new handle costs about $50 while one curling stone costs about $600 and brooms cost around $50.00.

ALCOHOL & BEVERAGES

All beverages must be purchased on site. Alcoholic drinks are not permitted other than in the lounge. Non alcoholic beverages are allowed but should not be brought into the arena area.

SAFETY

The Club is entirely smoke-free.  For those that must, an ash tray (Smoker’s Outpost) is provided ten feet outside the main entrance to your left.

With respect to other safety items, be careful. Ice is slippery and hard. Do not over extend yourself. Don't risk a broken arm or concussion. It’s not worth it.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

BOOKING DETAILS

Upon booking a bonspiel, a 50% deposit on ice fees will be required. Approximately ten days in advance of the bonspiel, the number of sheets required and any Banquet decisions must be finalized. On the actual day of the bonspiel, any remaining amounts are due and payable.

BONSPIEL DETAILS

Bonspiels normally are played in a three-event eight-end format, requiring two hours per draw. Funspiels usually are in a four-end format requiring about 1 1/4 hour per draw. Others formats can also be devised. Ask us for suggestions.

For the comfort of your participants, try to have half the field on the ice at any one time. Players usually become cold and tired after about three hours of continuous ice time.

FOOD AND LOUNGE SERVICES DETAILS

Food orders must be received 10 days prior to your event.  During the bonspiel, the cafeteria will be open for quick order food needs. Consequently, be sure your participants are aware of the type and timing of food services included with their entry.

Please advise of the hours a bartender is required (subject to AGLC restrictions). Bar service will be provided on a cash/debit/CC basis. Should you wish to provide complimentary wine or liquor, this must be arranged beforehand. All alcoholic beverages must be purchased at the Club and cannot be taken from the lounge.

INSTRUCTION

Instruction may be available for your event at a starting cost of $55.00 plus GST.  This will need to be booked prior to your event and upon availability.

OTHER SERVICES

The Club has a number of brushes available and a few sliders that is included in your rental fee. Please pre-book if a large number is required.

If there are any special needs for your group, please let us know. We will do our best to make your day enjoyable.
